The annual Peter J Isola Foundation Five-a-Side Football Tournament celebrated its 6th year last Friday, once again proving an enormous success. The event raised £4,265 in aid of the GBC Open Day, with the Foundation topping up the total donation to £6,000 to mark its 6th year.

17 teams took part in a fun but competitive tournament, demonstrating the community spirit that has made this event such a highlight in the local calendar.

GBC’s Gibraltar Today programme broadcast live from the event.

Adding to the fun atmosphere, the day featured an Accuracy Challenge, won by Triay’s Doran Torres, capturing the light-hearted, inclusive spirit of the event.

After a series of closely contested matches, Senate and RBS International met in a repeat of last year’s final, with Senate once again claiming victory. Port Auxiliary secured third place, rounding off another successful tournament.

Following the tournament, players and supporters enjoyed a large paella prepared by Isolas in-house chef on site, alongside pizzas and drinks served by our team.

Peter Isola, Trustee of the Peter J Isola Foundation, welcomed the continued growth of the event, saying:

“It was great to see so many teams return for another enjoyable day in support of the GBC Open Day. Thanks to everyone’s generosity, the Foundation is able to donate £6,000 towards Gibraltar’s Open Day this year. Our sincere thanks go to the players, sponsors, volunteers and supporters who made the day such a success and to the GFA for the enhanced facilities they made available to us this year which made the tournament even more enjoyable. Personally, I would also like to thank Genevieve Bossino for the tremendous work she puts in to the tournament each year and the Foundation throughout the year”

Tammy Isola, Trustee of the Peter J Isola Foundation, added:

“It was another enjoyable tournament, with some competitive matches and plenty of fun during the Accuracy Challenge. It is great to see everyone coming together to support the GBC Open Day. We really enjoy organising this event and appreciate the continued support we receive each year.”

The Trustees of the Peter J Isola Foundation extend their sincere thanks to all the teams who made this year’s event possible, and to the GFA, GSLA, Saccone & Speed, St John Ambulance, Aura and the dedicated GBC film and radio crews for their invaluable support and assistance. Special thanks also go to the PJI Foundation fundraising team for organising another fantastic event.

We look forward to welcoming returning teams and new participants to next year’s tournament. For further information, please contact Genevieve Bossino at genevieve.bossino@isolas.gi.
