To open water swimmers, Darren Grech and Anna Baglietto, 365 is not just a number; it’s a challenge, and one they finally completed on the 31st December 2021.
Darren and Anna completed 365 daily swims last year, averaging a mile each day, in order to “highlight the benefits of open water swimming, in particular in the context of mental health”.
In recognition of the duo’s efforts, the Peter J Isola Foundation is donating £5,000 towards mental health support in 2022.
Speaking of their impressive feat following their final swim, Darren recalls the “grey mornings or dark evenings, the oil spills and jellyfish, the days when our sleep-deprived and aching bodies complained and said no more please; the bitter incessant cold, the wind-swept empty beaches.”
Foundation Trustee, Genevieve Bossino, commented: “We would like to congratulate both Darren and Anna on completing an impressive 365 open water swims in 2021. We are very pleased to be able to continue supporting mental health initiatives within our local community; with Darren and Anna’s input, no doubt these funds will be put to very good use.” Read more here
